Apologies: None received.

The minutes of the last meeting: That the minutes of the AGM, December 5, 2011 be accepted as read (Trebilco/Meadowcroft). Carried.

Matters arising.

ANZATS Conference: Paul Trebilco reported that the ANZATS Conference will be held in Auckland from June 29th to July 2nd. The conference will include the local academic societies as “streams” within the conference. A call for papers is issued for papers to be included within each stream. Martin Sutherland will receive the papers, and disburse to representatives of the societies for consideration. Paul Trebilco and Kevin Waldie are overseeing arrangements in regards to the ANZABS stream.

Proposal for funding for Postgraduate students in the Pasifika region and Melanesia. Derek Tovey regretted to report that he had not progressed this as indicated would be done, and said he would bring something to the next Annual General Meeting.

ANZABS Conference 2014. This will be held in Dunedin, December 8th-9th, 2014.

New Business

Financial Report: Kevin Waldie circulated a financial report which showed that there was a surplus of $99.00 out of the 2011 conference, after $400.00 had been paid to enable two postgraduate students to attend. The current final balance in the account is $1,465.60.

After it was noted that no scholarships had been disbursed this year, a recommendation was made that the ANZABS Executive offer scholarships to enable Postgraduate students to attend conferences in the future.

There was a brief discussion about the reason for the $20 membership fee, which had been suggested at the previous AGM, in part to provide a pool of funds to enable ANZABS to host overseas speakers. In the event, such funds were not required for this year’s conference. The point was made that as ANZABS only “existed” at the conferences, and that people would not be removed from the mailing list if they did not pay a membership subscription, that the subscription would be considered a “donation”, which would not be insisted upon.

ANZABS Executive 2013: The current Executive was reappointed for 2013, namely, Kevin Waldie (President), Yael Klangwisan, Peter Carrell, Paul Trebilco, Derek Tovey (acting as “Secretary”). Derek indicated that he would step down at the next AGM.

Events and Visitors:

It was noted that the following scholars will visit New Zealand in 2013.

Douglas Campbell (Duke) – Mid-February/early March, Otago, lecturing on “Race and Gender in Paul”.

Ilia Delio (Georgetown University) – November, Christchurch, Christ and Evolution.

SNTS Conference: This will occur in Perth, July 23-27. People who are not members of SNTS and would like to attend should contact Paul Trebilco or Elaine Wainwright regarding the possibility of going as a “guest”. The Trinity Symposium (22-23 July), hosted by Trinity Theological College, just prior to the SNTS Conference, might provide an opportunity for those for whom conference funding depends upon presenting a paper. (The deadline for paper proposals for this Symposium is January 31, 2013).

Publications

Philip Church noted that Stimulus Journal has been revived, and publishes three times a year. The journal is peer-reviewed. ANZABS members are invited to submit papers for publication.
